Surrounded by high mountains, Gajo-myeon is located on eastern side of Geochang-gun, and it comes in contact with Northwest side of Hapcheon-gun. There was used to be a tribal country called ¡®Gaso¡¯, and it was called Gasohyeon or Hameumhyeon. In time of Goryeo, it was called ¡°Gasohyeon or Geojehyeon¡±, and in Joseon Dynasty period, it came under Geochang-hyeon.

In 1914, Sang-ga Nam-myeon and Gadong-myeon on east side were integrated into Gadong-myeon, and Ha-ga Nam-myeon and Gaseo-myeon were integrated into Gaseo-myeon. But in 1928, those two were put into one Gajo-myeon.

Now it is composed of Seokgang-ri, Gi-ri, Daecho-ri, Dongnye-ri, Janggi-ri, Sabyeong-ri, Masang-ri, Suwol-ri, Ilbu-ri, and Do-ri.

Among them, Seokgang-ri(Saengcho, Wangdae, Seokgang), Gi-ri(Yanggi, Eumgi, Gwangseong, Haksan), Daecho-ri(Daecho), and Ilbu-ri(Busan) were selected as IT villages.

Ganam Village has many beautiful mountains like Uisangbong, Minyeobong, Janggunbong, and also, there are precious cultural properties such as Gogyeonsa, Jiseongmyo. Ganam Village is famous for its hot spring, with thousands of tourists visiting every year.

On this blessed environment, Ganam Village is well known for its Boksubak(watermelons), apples, strawberries, beef, and rice.
