Since the springs were
also recorded in a chronicle of Goryeo, an ancient Korean state, it can be
believed that the springs were formed naturally in prehistoric times and have
been there ever since. The springs have
been called Bugok from way back for their resemblance to an iron pot. As rumors
spread all over the country that the hot springs had been founded in a village
called Omsaeng, patients suffering from skin ailments such as the itch and
leprosy came in crowds and this was because the water of the Bugok springs was
better than that of others.
In 1973, the old
Mr. Sin, Hyeontaek discovered sulfur springs which recover 6,000 tons of 78¡É
mineral waters a day and the springs are present Bugok springs. Other than
sulfur, the waters contain 20 kinds of minerals including silicon and chlorine.
The waters, therefore, are very effective for respiratory ailments, skin
ailments and so on.
