Mt. Jiri, one of the three most spectacular mountains of Korea (Mt. Baekdu, Mt. Halla being the other two), has two famous medicinal hot springs. One of them is Hwagae, the other is in Gurye.

Hwagae spring is famous for its sulfurated mineral waters. Because of the incredible medicinal properties of its waters, many wells were drilled in the hope of discovering other springs. All attempts failed, however, and so no more well holes can be seen. Hwagae Hot Spring will surely continue to provide warm spring waters rich in germanium (0.005§·/§¤).
