Baeksan
Reservoir is located at Hajeong-ri Baeksan-myeon Gimje, Jeonbuk.
It is a 175ha reservoir containing 3,516,000§© of waters and
was established when Honam¡¯s wild mountains got developed in 1969.
The coastline is severely served and the waterway to the right
of the embankment leads to the reservoir. Baeksan Reservoir
has many large fish, such as Crusian carp, carp, and leader carp,
and continuously attracts many fishers. At one point, it was
famous for grass carp fishing. Main species of fish in the reservoir
are Crusian carp and carp. The good catching points are the
deep regions, downstream, and by the embankment immediately past
water pumping. Water pumping makes the water opaque and warmer
to attract various species of Crusian carp. Nearby the coast grows
many aquatic plants such as lotus flowers and has various kinds
of fish. In winter, about 20,000 winter migratory birds, including
ducks and wild ducks, cover up the reservoir to create beautiful
scenes and attract bird observers.
It is called a clean reservoir because of
its clear waters and beautiful surrounding landscapes. The
view of the reservoir from the observation deck around sunset is
very romantic. It is also known as the background of Yun, Heung
Gil¡¯s novel <Wanjang (Armband)> from the early 1980s, which
humorously depicted the mysterious power of Wanjang and the meaning
of violence that comes with power.
