HoMountains and plains of Chungcheongnam-do are very flat and
mild. This is because this area is an eroded plain so it belongs
to the pene-plain which has many monadnocks.
wever, even this boiling Chungcheongnam-do area has a good
mountain called ¡°Kumbuk jeongmaek¡±. Kumbuk jeongmaek spread to
Yongbong mountain, Seowon mountain to Sudeok mountain, it is 6.5km
long to the northeast side and 2km long to the southwest side.
Yongbong
Mountain is 381m high; however, it is the spiritual support of the
Hongseong residents. Moreover, there are many strange shapes of
cliff and rough rocky path, so even though you stay there for all
whole day, you will feel like missing something. It is really fun
to climb the Yongbong mountain. There are many roads that you can
easily access, and also you can enjoy the beautiful landscape of
the rocky hill. After finishing climbing, you can go to the hot
spring which is very close and you can relax for a while.
The
name of Yongbong came from its shape that looks like somebody put
a head on the phoenix. There is a gentle slope on the middle of
the south area and west edge; also there are many pine trees. Also
it has a great strange shape of rock landscape such as Akgibong,
Janggun Rock, Byeongpung Rock, etc.
An average 700~800 travelers
visit here every Sunday or holiday, and people say that this place
is the miniature of Kumgang Mountain or Sokumgang Mountain. There
is much energy on the hills of Yongbong mountain, so within 5km
from the center of this mountain, there are General Choiyeong¡¯s
and Seongsammun¡¯s houses. So the residents are very proud of this
mountain.
Transportation & Hotel From
Seoul, drive on the Gyeongbu highway to Cheon-an Nadulmok, along
with the national road No. 21 pass the Asan and Yesan and go to
Hongseong. The other way is using the West Sea highway. Go out to
the Haemi Nadulmok, along with the national road No. 45, go to Deoksan
and go to local road No. 609 to go to Hongseong direction. From
Daejeon of Gyeongsang-do, pass Gongju and Cheongyang to go to Hongseong.
From Jeonla-do, go on the Honam highway and at the Nonsan intersection
pass the Buyeo and Cheongyang to go to Hongseong. At the Hongseong-gun,
drive on the local road No. 609 for 3km and you will see the sign
of left turn to go to Yongbong elementary school.
There
are many long distance buses from Seoul and Daejeon to Hongseong.
If you use the train, you can get off at the Hongseong station of
Janghang line. There are local buses from Hongseong to Yongbong
mountain, it goes 10 times a day (06:45~19:35, 1 hr apart) and it
takes 15 minutes (041-632-1371~3).
