Playing Yut

It is also called either Cheoksa or Sahi. It is a Korean traditional game that has been played since the period of three kingdoms and generally played around the first of January to the fifteenth. The game originated from the customs of that the Buyeo tribe which used to distribute 5 animals to 5 villages in order to breed these animals competitively.  That is why ¡®do¡¯, ¡®gae¡¯, ¡®gul¡¯, ¡®yut¡¯ and ¡®mo¡¯ are likened to each pig, dog, goat, cow and horse.

Experience: Yut is a game in which a team of two or more people competes against another team.

A Yut plate is composed of 5 spots on each side of a rectangular shape or 20 spots on a circular shape with 5 spots on an X-like shape in the middle, 29 spots in total.  After tossing Yut sticks, if one stick is turned over, it is called ¡®do¡¯ allowing one move; two sticks called ¡®gae¡¯ allowing two moves, three sticks called ¡®gul¡¯ allowing three moves, four sticks called ¡®yut¡¯ allowing four moves and if all four sticks are not turned over, it is called ¡®mo¡¯ allowing five moves.

If the contender¡¯s marker is caught or a team got ¡®yut¡¯ or ¡®mo¡¯, one can toss the sticks one more time.  The team whose 4 markers complete a round on the plate wins. The team can move two markers at the same time, which is a more efficient way to compete a round.
