Haein Temple, the center of Buddhist Truth, is one of three Korea's Temples along with Center of Buddha, Tongdo Temple and Center of Monks, Songgwang Temple.
It is the essence of Korea's Hwaeom Sect of Buddhism keeping Eighty-Thousand-block Tripitaka Koreana, the 463rd World Cultural Asset. It has been the spiritual support for Koreans and the light to wisdom brightening the land of Korea.
In particular, Janggyeong Depot where the Tripitaka Koreana is stored is mysterious as a lotus pattern appears in the entrance in summer and in winter.
The perfect damp proofing and air-circulation prevents any insects. It was never affected by the six huge fires of Haein Temple, so it was named "Place Protected from Three Disasters of Wind, Fire and Water".
The arrangement of structures in Haein Temple follows the typical Korean arrangement where First Gate, Nirvana Gate, Lecture Hall for Public, Main Sanctuary and Depots of Tripitaka Koreana. The view of pines and mountainous temples is very mysterious for the viewers. Also, it has about 70 pieces of national and local treasures. It is the 2nd best view of Hapcheon's 8 best views.
