  Jinju Castle

  Location : Namseong Dong – Bonseong Dong, Jinju Si

  Designated No : No 118  Historical place.

 

 

 

  It was designated as No 118 Historical place on January 21st 1963, and sometime called Chokeoungru. It was originally the place of Keoyeol castle and had been repaired 7 times during the period of King Gongmin in Goryeo dynasty and was used for the camp to defend Japanese attack. The inner circumference of it is 1.7km and the outer circumference is about 4km.

  This place was the battle field in which general Si Min Kim had got a victory, one of three great victories during Japanese  invasion in 1592, over Japanese, and 60 thousand solders and citizens died tragically to defend here when Japanese invaded again in June of 1593, in which Nongae committed suicide by drowning in Nam river with holding Japanese general in her arms.   

 

  According to records, General Su Il Lee moved his camp into the inside of castle in 1605(the 38th year of King Seonjo) and  built internal castle to complement the demerit of it, too broad castle, for effective defense which divided it into outer castle based on Choksukru, the surrounding of present Jinju park, and inner castle based on the surrounding of present Seongnae dong. After that, general Tae Her  Kim extended 12 batteries in 1607, and general Ey Hong Nam  had made a lot of effort to repair and extend this castle in 1618 ( 10th year od King Kwanghaegun). These efforts are assumed to shape present Jinju castle.             

 

  Jinyang lake  

  Location: The confluence between Kyeongho river and Dukcheon river.

  Established year :  1962 – 1965 ( Extended in 1999)

  Size: Length – 1,126m, Height – 34m, Holding capacity – 309.2 million ton.

  It is an artificial lake made by Nam river dam, built in 1970, blocking the inflow of Nam river, and is located at the confluence between Kyeongho river and Dukcheon river. The water are being used for adjusting floods, irrigation water and farming in the surrounding areas, and this lake became sightseeing resort with it¡¯s clean water and beautiful landscapes in Jinju Si.  

 

  There are a lot of entertaining facilities such as ferry, water advertisement center, zoo, park for children, hotel, inn and restaurant.  The parking lot available to accommodate 400 cars, zoo and the park for children is paid for the admittance, but water advertisement center is free.

  It can be accessed by the urban bus starting from inter-city bus terminal or highway bus terminal, by private car within 20 minutes from Sachun airport, by private car 2 minutes from Seo Jinju interchange of Highway.              

 

 

Eugseoksa in Giphyeon mountain

  Location : 734, Jeongpyeong Ri, Giphyeon Myun, Jinju Si, Gyeongnam

  Designated No : No 161 Traditional temple

  Designated date: November 13.1998.

  It was built in the 15th year of King Jinhueng(554), the 24th king of Shinla dynasty, in which some  priests of virtue including Mugak, Noiwong, Jigong had studied here. putting up the ridge beam was done in the 1st year of Genryung (1736) and repaired in the 3rd year of Gangmu (1899)

  It has improved the condition of surroundings and built accessory constructions including Iljumun and Yosache. Now, it is proud of excellent landscape and features as a traditional temple.

     - Main temple : No 141 Tangible cultural properties ( Designated on April 15.1976)
