Today, it is the era of investing and trying for environmentally-friendly
farming.
Therefore, Kumnam has put extraordinary effort for organic cultivation and is
still doing the best for it. This effort of Kumnam is strongly influenced by its
natural environments. Its natural privileges are Nakdong River that calmly flows
in front of the village and the open fields. Also, there was the effort of
Cucumber Producers¡¯ Committee. To prevent gray mold rot the cucumber blossoms
are removed one by one for low-chemical cultivation, and to reduce the
application of chemical fertilizers the fluid fertilizer maker is purchased to
ferment various herbal medicines and microorganisms. The farms that need the
organic fertilizers initiated the researches.
As a result, Kumnam cucumbers are firm for longer preservation and have strong
scent and distinguishably high sugar contents.
Also, the Producers¡¯ Committee devote themselves to experiment the
environmentally-friendly cultivation so as to perfect the selections and to
assure the consumers with the truly trustable Kumnam cucumbers.
Characteristics of Kumnam Cucumbers
Kumnam cucumbers are abundant in Vitamin C and moisture content, so are good for
urination and blood circulation as well as skin care. Using the water equipments
and hot fans, fresh cucumbers are cultivated throughout the year even in
winters. The cucumbers are covered with vinyl bags right after the fall of the
blossoms for pollution-free clean cultivation. Also, they are grown organically
in the fertile soils of Nakdong Riverside to be appointed a provincial superior
farm product and exported to Japan.
