Short-necked Clams

Short-necked clam is a type of clam similar to corb shell.  It is about 4-6cm in size.  The shell is white-grayish yellow and the meat is white.  It lives in the sandy soil where freshwater meets seawater.  When caught, it sprinkles seawater like a fountain.  Short-necked clam is very hard to open after it closes itself.  It breeds in large numbers in April and May.  It may also be poisonous during the breeding season.  Short-necked clams of the West Sea are evenly sized, have unique tastes, and are known for clean meats.  Short-necked clams are the major source of income for Baekmiri Village.  It is caught and distributed throughout the year except during the breeding season (early July to mid August).
