The point of viewing pot-planting
Root: Root stretch is the most important thing of the pot-planting. It is desirable that thick root stands firmly in the ground and the root around the trunk, stretching to all directions and every corner, trailing front and rear, right and left energetically and thinly, and having no extreme undulation.

Trunk: It is good that the circumference of the lower end of the trunk should be round and stand energetically. Middle branches and other twigs should not be thin unnaturally but be thin naturally. The shape of the trunk, for example, ornamental plants should be bent loosely right and left, and become shrunk with hollowed trunk in the middle.

Branch: It is called good that the layout of branch is under rule and branch spreads from the trunk.
The first brancha(its direction is not important) should come out from the bottom  length of the total length and the second branch should come out from little bit opposite side of upper area and then the third one should come out from the upper locatin where the first one came out. This kind of layout results in shorten the distance and crowded between leaves when they go up.
Also, from the middle spot between the second branch and the third one, the next one is located behind the previous one to create realistic and dimensional moods. Needless to say that the thickness of branch should be thinner as going up and thin branches should be carefully handled.

Leaf: Little stiff leaf looks vivid. This kind of tree has property to glow twig and it is good for pot-planting. Normal shape of leaf is better rather than malformed.  Changed one according to seasons is good for the deciduous tree while vivid green colored leaf is good for evergreen. Even the same kind trees, there are good or bad leaves. Little size, thick thickness and vivid color leaf is desirable for pot-planting whose goal is to create a shrank tree harmonizing trunk, branch and leaves.
The leaf should bear the unique property of the tree.

Flower: Flower should blossom charmingly and timidly to get harmonized.

Fruits: Fruit tree pot-planting is appreciated for its beautiful fruit in Fall. The size, shape and color of fruits should be matched with the tree and the period of bearing fruits should be long. Changing color and blossom fruits during the Fall is unique attraction of pot-planting.

Palmistry: Even pot-planting has palmistry. We said Palmistry is good for the trees that has good shape comes from naturally the appearance and looks of trees. Pot-planting is also living thing. Do not touch it excessively, ask the price, and criticize without cause.

Korean pot-planting
There is possibility that Korean pot-planting was earned from Chinese pot-planting. Although little historical data about Korean pot-planting remains today, the first comment about pot-planting is in the Pa-han Jip, written by Lee, In Ro(A.D.1152~1220).
Even though it is possible that Korean people grew pot-planting before that, there is no certain proof. The historical record tells us Korean pot-planting is about one thousand years old. After the Pa-han Jip, Yanghwa-sorok(1460), written by Hee-An Kang during the reign of King Sejo in Lee Dynasty, and Sanlim-Kyungjae (A.D. 1700), written by Man-Sung Hong show the record.
It is recorded that Scholar, Kyu-Bo Lee (1168~1241) cited chrysanthemums, auspicious flowers, pomegranates, bamboo and sweet rush as well as the Chinese Rose in Dongkuk-leesangkukjib, which include poems and writings regarding pot-planting in the middle of the Koryeo Dynasty.
Choi, Ja (A.D. 1188~1160) wrote about plant bamboo and sweet rush in the middle of the Koryeo Dynasty. He recommended sweet rush be planted in white sand with moisture. From this, it is popular planting and enjoying bamboo and sweet rush in the middle of the Koryeo Dynasty.
Prime minister at the end of the Koryeo Dynasty, Rok-Sang Jeon (A.D. 1318~1375) composed a poem, which has difficult and deep meaning.  We can feel the taste of appreciation of trees in nature.
We can trace to its origin from the anthology, Youngbun-song.

This song manifests the longing of and the joy with Mother Nature, and expresses the flavor and beauty of pot-planting very well.
Also Poun Jung, Mong Joo left a poem of Bun-Jong-Song-Juk-Nan-Mae. It says,

Truly, it songs just like the old fine tree stands beside you.
Between 1337~1392, a painting of Japanese apricot tree on pottery is shown, Jong-Hak Lee (1361~1392) left a poem of pot-planting. And also there was an embroidery which is 40~66cm long.
Yanghwa-sorok, written by Hee-An Kang, is showing how to plant and grow pot-planting and flowering plants. It also explains the feature of trees, how to plant, even tree type.
As the species became various, people call Kang, Hee An as Three colors. From old records to his own records, he recorded everything. The writings in 1460s is the oldest record. It is said that The pot-planting grow over mans height in the paintings.
Record writings began to publish in 1643~1715. Seungjeehwejibdo in 1653, Sanlim-Kyungjae, written by Hong, Man Sun, in the early 1700, Dokum in 1735, Limdo 16-Ji in 1840.
