This
is a type of native pig that only lives in Jeju Special Self-governed
Province of Korea. Native pigs that live throughout the country
seem to have originated from the small-sized pigs that were raised
in the northern part of China in the Goguryeo Empire. It seems
that these small pigs were transmitted to Jeju Special Self-governed
Province around this time and settled as its native species. Similar
to other native pigs, our pigs are covered with a shiny black coat
and have narrow faces and long mouths. Their ears are small,
unfolded, and pointing up. They are smaller in size than other
foreign breeds and have narrower bellies. Their chests are
relatively broad, butts are small and fatless, and legs are short
and well-balanced. Our pigs are high in helpful protein, limestone,
unsaturated fatty acid, essential fatty acid (Omega 3), and oleic
acid and low in fat and calories. They are highly resistant to diseases
and quickly adjustable to environmental changes. Because they
are exceptional in quality and taste as meat, we usually breed them
for table use.
