Dubu Agricultual Cooperative Association in our village cultivate and sell agricultural chemical free Hwangu Rice. This rice is certified as Quality Certified Rice from National Agricultual Quality Agency in 1996.
This region was famous for its good tasting rice from a long time ago. Dubu Agricultual Cooperative Association managed to process it in a more scientific way to make the best rice in the nation. The cultivation process starts from strict seed selection. Use of chemicals is strictly limited with Dubu Agricultual Cooperative Association's supervision in each stage of its cultivation.
This harvested rice is collected by Dubu Agricultual Cooperative Association to be processed in the newest facilities to be sold as Hwangu Rice brand name. The Hwangu means golden rice patties or Korean yellow cattle.
More and more consumers in Ulsan, Busan area noticed the name Hwangu Rice and Dubu Agricultual Cooperative Association became the synonym for Hwangu Rice. Hwangu Rice is definitely Ulju County's proud special product. With people's interest and popularity, there are annual festivals like Hwangu Rice Harvest Festival with Grasshopper Catching Event. There are many programs in the festivals including Korean Agricultual Product Direct Market. It has become one of Korea's greatest agricultural festivals not just for people in this region but for many people from far away.
There are two kinds of Hwangu Rice. One is Hwangu Rice I (Certified Quality Low Chemical Hwangu Rice, the other is Hwangu Rice II(Regular). Hwangu Rice I has been produced since year 2000 with National Agricultual Quality Agency's certification. It is under strict restrictions in seed selection, soil management, harvesting time, drying process, damages from disease and harmful insects and so on. This rice is produced in environmentally friendly cultivation process that makes it safe and tasty to eat.
Hwangu Rice II has been produced from 1996 with strict quality control of Dubu Agricultual Cooperative Association . It also is governed by restrictions in seed selection, soil management, harvesting time, drying process, damages from disease and harmful insects and so on. This rice is all cultivated by pre-contract.

Distinction of Hwangu Rice
- This rice is cultivated in the Clean District of Hyeongsan River and Taehwa River's origin with clean water and soil that contains a lot of Korean cattle's compost.
- It is cultivated upon pre-contracts with superior seed. Dubu Agricultual Cooperative Association collects the harvested rice and inspects the quality. Then directly process, selectively packaged and supplied to ensure the quality.
- Low Chemical Hwangu Rice is certified by National Agricultural Quality Agency and environmentally friendly rice.
- Reguler Hwangu Rice is produced upon Dubu Agricultual Cooperative Association's strict quality control from pre seed selection to the harvest.
Black Rice
Black glutinous rice plant is first cultivated with clean water then kept in un-milled condition. It is clean and tastes good because it is freshly pounded just before being sold. Also, its color looks good and smells good when cooked with 20~30% mixed with Reguler rice. It is effective in relieving symptoms in diabetes and constipation. It contains more vitamin B, C's than regular rice. This special black rice has the most black pigment (2%) in the world and tastes better than any other kinds. Eating raw black rice improves body's general control system and immune system. This is known to be effective in children and pregnant women's anemia. It is effective to stop aging and prevent pulsation. Especially, black rice contains selenium(Se) to prevent cancer.
