Introduction
 

Origin of Field Fire Festival/ Field Fire Festival of Lunar Jan 15 is a modernized form of Jeju's traditional custom.  

To get rid of old grass and to kill the harmful insects for the livestock culturing, villages of Jeju Islands burned their fields every winter.  

It was first started in 1997 and 2004 Field Fire Festival of Lunar Jan 15 will be the 8th event.   

 

Meaning of Field Fire Festival of Lunar Jan 15

Field Fire Festival is held on volcanoes to imitate the volcanic explosions.  

Field Fire Festival that is so magnificent to remind us of active volcanoes is very impressive.  

It maximizes the traditional resources of Jeju Island such as fire, horses, moon and volcanoes to emphasize the meaning of the festival.  

To introduce the native specialties and tourists' resources of Bukjeju through various media including videos, a general PR center is installed to guide the tourists through Bukjeju.  

In particular, Field Fire Festival of Lunar Jan 15 is spread enthusiastically with the dreams of Jeju people wishing to make Jeju an Island of Peace.
