Introduction
Honam is the production center for both seafood and agricultural products from the southwest coastal areas in which the food culture is well-developed enough to be known as a 'Home of Taste'. The Gwangju Kimchi Festival is one of the local cultural tourism festivals that promote Kimchi, the distinctive traditional Korean food.
- The festival includes a variety of cultural events such as Samulnori (performance with 4 musical instruments), Pansori (a long epic song), a Kimchi Concert, Foreigner's Song Festival, Madangkeuk (mask dance or drama); exhibitions that display the history and culture of Kimchi along with a Kimchi demonstration and associated foods; Kimchi making contests open to one and all (such as families, travelers, foreign diplomats); and folk games such as rice cake making with mallet and straw craft, which provide local/foreign tourists with an opportunity to participate.
