[ Ginseng Festival ]
Origin of Ginseng Festival
in Korea is in Gaeseong City in Japanese colonization period,
where were famous for Ginseng cultivation. In Gaeseong, there
were Ginseng Shrine in West Park and on every October of each
year, people working in Ginseng industry have conducted rituals
and some fireworks at night.
Here in Geumsan, though it is not a open festival
like in Gaeseong, there is a ritual named ‘Samjangjae’. During
this ritual, people who have done culturing Ginsengs thank god for
its successful cultivation. And also thanks those shaman gods for
making this land a bless soil where Ginsengs grow. They also which
for prosperity in Ginseng cultivation, and wish to be protected
from any disaster to the soil.
Thus, the administration of Geumsan-gun is trying
to develop this ‘Samjangjae’ into a festival for people in the
county and as an opportunity to promote the effects and benefits
of Ginseng. Also, by coming up with many other ways to utilize Ginseng,
it could generate consumption and enhance the income of the people
in the region. Not only that, but, to stabilize the traditional
event of this area, they’ve enacted regulations and established
Geumsan-gun Ginseng Promotion Organization. As main action body
of the festival, from 1981, Geumsan Gingseng Festival is being held
up till now.
Guemsan Ginseng Festival promoted Ginseng produced
in Geumsan and enhanced the image of Guemsan as the origin of Ginseng.
Now, it is known as one of the best Industrial Culture/Tourism Festivals
of Korea.
[ Apple/Pear Festival ]
Every October in Sutong-1-ri, there is Apple/Pear
festival.
They invite people from the provinces and cities,
and promote their famous pears. And those who participate in the
festival get to taste some sweet apples and pears.
