Introduction

"Galgol Hangwa Village" is located in Gangrung. The village is like any other rural village that recalls memories of one's home town. "Galgol Hangwa Village" preserves and exudes a traditional aura and spirit. In 1989, it was selected as a village for preserving traditional food. In 2001, it was selected as an excellent village for the New Rural Area Construction Movement. It was also selected as a model village for the information promotion project.


"Shift to a Gwajul Village thanks to the '1 Brand Product, 1 Gun Project'"
Nodongjung-ri, Sacheon-myon, Gangrung city is a rural village called Galgol because it has many oak trees. Now, it is known better as Sacheon Gwajul village. 30 years ago, it was a poor rural village. The entire households in the village joined the "1 brand product, 1 gun project" and began to produce Hangwa in the traditional way. As a result, the village began to be called Sacheon Gwajul village and became a wealthy village with no debt. The annual income per household is 50,000,000 won.

Village with "clean sea and mountains" and generosity
Sacheon Galgol Hangwa village is a typical rural village, 10km north of Gangrung city. Its cultivation area is 34.6ha (paddy field 16.9ha, upland 17.7ha), 0.5ha per household. Before the village spreads the clean, East Sea. Its back is surrounded by mountains. In addition to these natural treasures, village residents are very generous. Since it is quiet, it is good for city visitors to stop by and take a rest.

Village insisting on the tradition applying "environment-friendly farming" 
By 1976, the village was late in every respect. Now, the primary income source is the production of traditional Korean cookies that are also regional specialties. As the national economy grew, consumption of health food also increased. In 1996, the village's Hangwa was designated as 'No. 2 traditional food' by the Ministry of Agriculture. The village produced Gangjeong coated with sesame seeds and 4 more varieties of traditional cookies and exported them to the U.S. For contributing to the national and regional economic development, the village won an Industrial Award bestowed by the Korean government. As a village of traditional Korean cookies, its prestige is well known across the nation. The village formed the collective deer rearing association and 5 more crop associations. It boosted its income by farming radishes for pickles by contract, selling processed radishes, producing rice, duck farming, collecting clean mountain mushrooms and rearing native domestic animals. It improves farming competitiveness with alternative crops, which is recommended as the domestic market opens in accordance with the WTO agreement.
